Just Say Yes: Memoirs of a Geezer
By A. John Graves
The “Yes” part is the philosophy of life which took him from three shows a night as comedian “Deadpan Digger Graves” in a traveling comedy band to a Nixon White House conference; from playing for dances in the Porterville Elks Club to parties for Judy Garland and John Wayne; from a college radio major to a TV network executive, producer, and executive producer of Peter Weir’s Picnic at Hanging Rock; and from 35 years in music, broadcasting, and film to Professor Emeritus of Mass Communication at the University of Central Missouri.
The “Memoirs” part is all the people and events which made the trip so amazing, from Errol Flynn in a shower to Bertrand Russell in his hilltop home in Wales; from tea with Katharine Hepburn in her Beverly Hills home to Carol Channing on his bicycle handlebars; from accompanying Jimmie Durante and Rosemary Clooney to drifting for two weeks through the Grand Canyon in a raft. (Most of this colorful cast of characters are listed on the back cover.)
Mixed up in all this is an assortment of philosophical observations, humorous perceptions, and often audacious suggestions.

What Dave Brubeck says about "Just Say Yes:
Memoirs of a Geezer
"I have enjoyed the opportunity to look over the
manuscript of "Just Say Yes: Memoirs of a Geezer". It brought back some
pleasant memories. Your stories have a personal perspective that make
them as enjoyable as reading a wonderful letter from an
old friend (one who knows how to write, that is). We have had many
similiar experiences and I am amazed that our paths did not cross more
often than they did."

What Ralph Guild says about "Just Say Yes: Memoirs of a Geezer
"John Graves memoires are
a warm and often humorous chronology of the TV and movie business during
the second half of the 20th century from someone who was active in
many parts of both businesses on three continents. His anectdotes leave
the reader with a feeling of having met and known the active participants
personally."
Ralph Guild, CEO of Interep Radio Store, the pre-eminent
National Sales Representative organization in the U.S. and scholar of the
radio industry (with a room named after him in the Museum of Broadcasting
in New York).
What Lew Hunter says about "Just Say Yes: Memoirs of a Geezer
"Wonderful! All 'remember when' in the most
glowing ways. His superlative memory book will keep me going for
weeks with the uplifting things he did, which trigger my personal uplifting
things. No matter what vocation anyone has had, these "memoirs" can
well help the pain of the leaves falling off the tree. "
